Mathematics at St. Sophia

Our mathematics program at St. Sophia is exceptional and we are proud of it!

Beginning in junior kindergarten, students lay a foundation that will serve them well throughout their studies. Our formal math studies begin in earnest in kindergarten and continue through 11th or 12th grade. A few our brightest math students, especially those who are with us from the earliest years, may be ready to begin Algebra 1 in 7th grade. Of those who are not quite ready the most will complete Algebra 1 in 8th grade. This course allows a much deeper and broader study of math topics to be completed prior to college entrance exams which greatly increase test scores. It also has an added benefit in higher level science courses students will take at St. Sophia’s high school and in college, and broadens the choices open to them for their future. The study of math trains the mind to think logically and understand patterns, much like the study of Latin trains the mind to understand language through order.
